Tips on Adding Colour to Your Home

Do you know one of the most common questions we get asked here at Gussy Dup? ‘How do I start adding colour to my home? I don’t know where to start!’

It doesn’t matter whether you're renting or own your home, working out where and how to start adding colour to your personal space is for some, an overwhelming prospect.

With big neutral walls, a mix of furniture you’ve collected over the years and a desire to create a bright, inviting and gorgeous space, where do you start creating the place of your dreams?

Never fear, we have a few tips to help you get started.

Don’t worry about getting it wrong!

Creating your own style and reflecting it in your living or office space is a learning process. It’s all about experimenting and seeing what works for you, in your space.

Nothing you do needs to be permanent, so relax and have a bit of fun. My own home is constantly evolving and changing, so try thinking about decorating as a constant work in progress.

Starting is easy if you focus on small steps at a time

Pick something you love, whether a piece of art, a rug, a family memento, a duvet cover or just a favourite colour.

Then create a Pinterest board focusing on working that style or colour into your home – here’s one we’ve started with neutral spaces and 'pops' of colour.

A board like this also gives you inspiration that you can carry with you when shopping for furniture or that perfect piece of art.

Take photos of spaces that inspire you

Love a friend’s bedroom decor? Ask them if you can take a pic. And have fun planning pieces to complement what you’ve collected on your Pinterest board.

For example, if you’re adding something brightly coloured like our High Noon print, it can look great to use furnishings to pick up on the more earthy tones - think tan leather chairs or wooden shelves - that will provide a good grounding for the pops of colour.

Don’t be afraid to mix and match, seek out inspiration and choose what you love.
